The Polar Bear is the snow-biome bruiser — the direct upgrade to The Bear and, with 500 HP and 50 damage per hit, the single highest-damage killable entity in the game. It guards the Polar Bear Cave, drops a pelt for warm clothing (not for the Pelt Trader), and — if you bring a Strong Flute — becomes a top-tier cold-weather pet. The HP and damage are consistent across the fandom wiki, rblxguide and 99nightsinforest, all checked 2026-09-30. The Polar Bear is widely called the "strongest killable entity" alongside the Mammoth (800 HP but lower damage).
How It Behaves
- It is a snow specialist. It spawns in the Snow Biome once your campfire is Level 4+, most reliably at the Polar Bear Cave (two bears inside). It used to also appear in the normal Forest on a snowy patch, but that was pre-Snow-Biome.
- It teleports home. Like every animal, lure it too far and it vanishes back to its post — kill it where it lives (climbing on top of the cave and shooting down works, or 6 Bear Traps in a 2×3 grid).
- It jumps terrain. Big as it is, it can unexpectedly hop over geometry, so use elevation and safe spots.

Worth flagging: unlike the Alpha Wolf Pelt or Bear Pelt, the Polar Bear Pelt is not wanted by the Pelt Trader. Its value is cold-resistance gear, so hunt it when you need to survive the snow, not to fuel trades.
How to Fight It
- Ranged is the only safe answer. A Rifle or Tactical Shotgun keeps you out of its 50-damage reach. Melee is not recommended — one hit can drop an unarmored survivor.
- Bear Traps. 6 traps in a 2×3 grid chunk it hard; it pathing-locks on rocks and structures, so lure it into a corner.
- Use elevation. Climb the Polar Bear Cave and shoot down, or hide under the Research Station near the blue boxes, to take zero damage.
- Don't bring pets. A Polar Bear will delete a pet; keep your companions away.
How to Tame It
The Polar Bear is a late-game pet — the strongest cold-weather companion you can field.
- Tool: a Strong Taming Flute (Tier 3). Good or Old will not work.
- Cycles: 5 angry faces above its head.
- Food: the most-cited set is 1 Rib + 1 Stew + 1 Swordfish per cycle (×5 = Rib ×5, Stew ×5, Swordfish ×5). A second group of guides reports 1 Rib + 2 Stew per cycle (×5 = Rib ×5, Stew ×10), with no Swordfish. Both are reported; read the speech bubble in your own run.
- Rule: the Polar Bear must be undamaged to start the mini-game.
