How to Get the Laser Sword in 99 Nights in the Forest (Real Damage, Drop Routes and the Alien Event Gate)
Where the Laser Sword drops — Broken UFOs, Mothership UFOs and Alien Chests — its actual damage at full charge versus overheated, why the 2,530,232 damage figure floating around is a formatting bug, and which class pairs with it.
The Laser Sword is the one alien weapon in 99 Nights in the Forest that no class will hand you. The Raygun comes with the Alien, the Laser Cannon comes with the Cyborg, and the Alien Shotgun comes with the Alien Scientist. The Laser Sword has no such shortcut — if you want one, you have to wait for an alien event and go loot a crashed ship.
That gate is the whole story of this weapon. It is not weak, but it is not the "highest damage melee in the game" that some guides imply either, and one number that has been circulating for it is flatly wrong.

What the Laser Sword Actually Is
It is a melee weapon with an energy meter, and the meter is the entire gimmick.
- No ammo, ever. It draws from the Alien Tech Energy bar — the same bar the Raygun, Laser Cannon and Alien Shotgun use. If you carry two of them, they share one pool. (See the Alien class page for how that bar behaves.)
- It recharges on its own, at roughly one charge per second, and it recharges even while the sword is stowed.
- At full charge it swings for 30 and throws a small area-of-effect wave that hits enemies standing close by, adding about 5 more damage.
- At low charge it is close to useless. Not zero — roughly 2 damage per swing, which every source describes as "less than a Chainsaw."
- You can read the charge off the weapon. The blade has a blue ring around its shoulder that fills as the meter charges, so you can time swings without watching the HUD.
That last point is the skill ceiling on the weapon. Players who swing constantly sit at 2 damage and conclude the sword is bad. Players who swing, pause a beat and swing again keep it near 30 and find it strong.
One quirk worth knowing: the Laser Sword is reported to be the only alien-tech weapon that still does damage while the bar is overheated. The Cannon and Raygun simply refuse to fire. So a dry Laser Sword is not a dead slot — it is just a very bad one.
The Damage Numbers
| Condition | Damage |
|---|---|
| Listed base | 25 |
| Full Alien Tech charge | 30 |
| Full charge, enemy close by (AoE bonus) | ~35 |
| Overheated / low charge | 2 |
| Brawler class (+30% melee) | 32.5 |
| Berserker class, full charge | 39 |
| Swing rate | 0.5 s |
The number to plan around is 30, not 25. The 25 is the weapon's listed stat; the 30 is what you actually get when you use it correctly, and every "how to get it" guide quotes 30 for that reason.
Ignore the "2,530,232 damage" figure
Several aggregator sites list the Laser Sword's damage as 2,530,232 (rendered as 2.530.232 on the Portuguese version of one of them), with a straight-faced explanation that it is "balanced around the late-game alien event where enemies have hugely inflated health pools."
It is a formatting bug, and we can show exactly how. The weapon's stat block lists damage as 25, 30 (full charge), 2 (alien tech overheat), 32.5 (Brawler). Strip the labels and the decimal and run them together:
25 + 30 + 2 + 32 = 2530232 → formatted 2.530.232
The digits match perfectly, including the overheat value of 2 sitting in the middle, where no real damage figure would ever appear. This is the same concatenation bug that produces nonsense numbers elsewhere on those sites — a Katana listed at 2,532 is really 25 and 32.5, an Ice Sword at 3,545 is 35 and 45.5.
The real number is 30. If you see seven digits, the page you are reading is broken.
How to Get It: Three Documented Sources
All three require the alien event to be live. There is no fourth route, no shop, no crafting recipe.
1. Broken UFOs. When the event fires, 2–4 crashed UFOs scatter across the map. Each is guarded by roughly 2–4 aliens, and each holds about one piece of alien loot. The documented loot pool includes the Laser Sword alongside the Raygun, the Laser Cannon, Alien Armour and consumables. Bring something ranged to clear the guards, then loot the ground and any containers at the site.
2. Mothership UFOs. The flagship ship itself is a source, and its Alien Chest is the highest-value container in the event. Getting aboard is the hard part — see The Alien Mothership for the full raid walkthrough.
3. Alien Chests generally. Alien Chests are not exclusive to the Mothership. The Aliens' Revenge update also places them at the alien structures you farm Alien Batteries from — Alien Sites, Alien Outposts and Alien Drops — so a battery run can hand you one without a full raid.
What is not a route: no class. Buying the Alien, the Cyborg or the Alien Scientist will never give you a Laser Sword. That is stated explicitly by the wiki and confirmed by every guide we checked, and it is the single most common misconception about the weapon.
The Alien Event Gate
Because there is no class route, your ability to get this weapon at all is decided by whether an alien event is running.
- Timing: sources agree the event is tied to Night 3 of a run.
- Where they split: several guides describe it as automatic on Night 3 — a cutscene plays, UFOs crash near the campfire, the Command Ship appears. One detailed guide says it is now a chance to trigger rather than a guarantee, following the Crafting Update, and that it is not affected by bed multipliers.
- The practical consequence: that one guide's advice is to restart runs until you see alien activity by Day 3 if you are specifically hunting alien loot. We cannot confirm the drop from guaranteed to chance, so treat the timing as "Night 3, probably, maybe not every run" and check your own campfire rather than trusting either claim absolutely.
For whether an event is live right now, see the Update Log.
Which Version Are You Playing?
This matters more for the Laser Sword than for most items, because the two alien events reach the Mothership differently.
| Alien Invasion (18 July 2025) | Aliens' Revenge (27 June 2026) | |
|---|---|---|
| How you board | One crashed UFO carries a portal straight up | Collect 5 Alien Batteries, repair the Command Ship, walk into the green beam |
| Inside | Linear alien rooms | Three side rooms behind corpse-scanner doors |
| Chest loot, as documented | Laser Sword, Laser Cannon, Raygun, Alien Armour, Diamonds | Alien Shotgun, Dissolve Ray, alien-tech blueprints |
Read that last row carefully, because it is the honest caveat on this page. The Laser Sword's place in the Alien Chest loot table is documented for the 2025 version of the event. The current raid's chest is documented as paying the Alien Shotgun and Dissolve Ray instead. Whether the Laser Sword is still in the current chest table — or only still obtainable from Broken UFOs and the Alien Chests at battery structures — is not something we can confirm.
If you are playing during a live Aliens' Revenge window and you want one, farm Broken UFOs and the battery-structure Alien Chests rather than betting the whole run on the Mothership chest.
Best Class to Pair With It
Berserker (100 Diamonds) is the pairing every guide names. Its damage bonus — which scales as your HP drops — takes the sword from 30 to 39 per hit at full charge. At 100 Diamonds it is one of the cheapest classes that changes a weapon's numbers, which matters here because you cannot buy the sword itself.
Brawler is the other melee class and is credited with 32.5.
A note on our own house numbers: elsewhere on this site we document Brawler as a +30% melee modifier and a fully boosted Berserker as roughly ×1.6. On the Laser Sword, the published figures are 32.5 (which is 25 × 1.3) and 39 (which is 30 × 1.3) — so both classes are being reported at +30%, and the two numbers are measured against different baselines. If Berserker's fully-boosted ×1.6 applied to a full-charge swing, the ceiling would be about 48. No source publishes 48, so we list 39 as the documented figure and flag ~48 as our own arithmetic, not a reported value.
Is It Worth Chasing?
This is where we part ways with the hype. Here is the sword against the melee weapons you could be carrying instead, using the swing rates and damage figures that are actually published:
| Weapon | Damage | Swing | Burst DPS | How you get it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Morningstar | 70 | 1.0 s | 70 | Gold Chests |
| Ice Sword | 35 | 0.5 s | 70 | Silver Ice Chests |
| Laser Sword | 30 (35 w/ AoE) | 0.5 s | 60 | Alien event only |
| Chainsaw | — | — | — | Crafted at the Workshop |
Two honest conclusions:
On a single target it loses. At 30 damage per swing it needs 3 hits to kill a wolf (75 HP) and 12 for a bear (350 HP). The Morningstar does the same jobs in 2 and 5. If you want a weapon that deletes one big thing, this is not it — and unlike the Morningstar it is locked behind an event window.
On a crowd it wins, and that is the real reason to carry one. The full-charge AoE wave hits everything nearby, so three wolves standing together take roughly 90 damage per swing cycle where a Morningstar takes 70 against one of them. Inside the tight corridors of the Mothership, where aliens come at you in packs, that is genuinely strong.
And the burst DPS figure is optimistic. 60 DPS assumes a full bar. The meter drains as you swing and recharges about one charge per second, so sustained output is lower and depends on you pacing. Treat it as a crowd-control tool you swap to, not a weapon you hold down.
Verdict: get one if an alien event is live and you are already raiding UFOs — it costs you nothing extra and it is the best anti-crowd melee in that content. Do not reroll runs specifically for it, and do not spend Diamonds on Berserker for it unless you wanted Berserker anyway.
Where Sources Disagree
Base damage: 25 or 30? The stat block says 25 with a 30 full-charge qualifier; most guides just say "30 at full charge." Both are right about different things. Use 30.
Brawler or Berserker for the 39 figure. One aggregator attributes both 32.5 and 39 to "Brawler." The wiki splits them: 32.5 Brawler, 39 Berserker. The Berserker reading is corroborated by three independent guides, so we use it.
How many weapons share the charge bar. One source says three (Laser Sword, Laser Cannon, Raygun); another says four (adding the Alien Shotgun). Cosmetic difference — the Alien Shotgun postdates the older page.
Is the event guaranteed on Night 3? Automatic per most sources; chance-based per one. Flagged above.
Is it still in the current Mothership chest? Unconfirmed. Flagged above.
The 2,530,232 figure. Not a disagreement — it is a bug. See above.
FAQ
How do you get the Laser Sword in 99 Nights in the Forest? From Broken UFOs, Mothership UFOs, or an Alien Chest. All three need a live alien event, and none are guaranteed.
Can you buy it or get it from a class? No. It is the only alien-tech weapon with no class starter weapon. The Alien, Cyborg and Alien Scientist classes do not include it.
What damage does it do? 30 per hit at full charge, plus a small AoE wave worth about 5 more to nearby enemies. It drops to roughly 2 when the Alien Tech bar is empty.
Does it need ammo? No. It runs on the shared Alien Tech Energy bar, recharging about one charge per second.
Is it the best melee weapon in the game? Not on single-target damage — the Morningstar and Ice Sword both beat it there. Its edge is area damage against groups.
What is the best class for it? Berserker (100 Diamonds), taking it to 39 per hit at full charge.
When was it added? 18 July 2025, with the Alien Invasion update that also added the Mothership, Broken UFOs and the Alien and Cyborg classes.

Checked 2026-10-02. The obtainment routes — Broken UFOs, Mothership UFOs and Alien Chests — are identical across Deltia's Gaming, SportsRant, BoundByFlame, OfZenAndComputing and the wiki mirror, and all five also state independently that no class starts with the Laser Sword. The damage figures (25 base, 30 full charge, 2 overheated, 32.5 Brawler, 39 Berserker full charge) and the 0.5-second swing rate come from the wiki stat block and the structured item database at 99-nights-in-the-forest.com; Deltia's Gaming, SportsRant and BoundByFlame independently confirm 30 at full charge, the ~5 close-range/AoE bonus, the one-charge-per-second recharge and the 39 Berserker figure. The Berserker attribution for the 39 is Deltia's Gaming, SportsRant and BoundByFlame against one aggregator that credits Brawler — we followed the majority. The 2–4 UFOs per event with 2–4 guards each is OfZenAndComputing alone and is flagged as a single source. The Night 3 chance-versus-guaranteed split is OfZenAndComputing against the rest. The 2025-versus-2026 Mothership entry methods and the two different chest loot tables follow our Alien Mothership research. The 2,530,232 figure is from rblxguide and is rejected as a concatenation bug for the reasons shown above — that site is not used as a source anywhere else on this page.
