Campfire Level Gates: Every Gate Each Level Opens
The six campfire levels in 99 Nights in the Forest each open specific chests, places, ponds, rescues and buildings. This is the first page to put every campfire level gate in one table, and the four levels that decide whether a run gets anywhere.
Campfire Level Gates: Every Gate Each Level Opens
Every page in this wiki that mentions a campfire level states its gate in passing — the Frog Cave needs Level 2 and eight Frog Keys, the Stronghold shows up at Level 3, the clinic opens at Level 4, the anvil at Level 5, the Bone Pond at Level 6. That is 55 pages and more than 200 separate statements, each one correct on its own page and none of them collected anywhere.
This page is the collection. It is the one table in the wiki that lists every campfire level gate in the game, sorted by the level that opens it, with a link back to the page that documents each one. The campfire page owns the fuel costs and the badge list; this page owns the gates. If you want to know what a level is worth, it is here. If you want to know what it costs, it is there.
Quick Answer
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What is the campfire? | The progression system of the game. Six levels, and each level opens a ring of the map |
| How many gates does this page list? | 59 documented campfire level gates, from Level 1 to Level 6 |
| Which level matters most? | Level 4. It opens the clinic, the volcano interior and the rare chest band — one level before the anvil |
| Which level ends a run early if you miss it? | Level 6. The Bone Pond, the Trident, the Medkit and the last rescue all sit behind it |
| Is campfire level the only gate? | No. The Frog Cave needs Level 2 and eight Frog Keys, and no key substitutes for the level |
| Which gates are disputed? | The fishing building (1, 2 or 3–4), the Tool Workshop (2 or 3), the Jungle (2, 3 or 3–4) and the Alpha Wolf (4 or 3–5) |
| Do chest levels change what drops? | No — they change which chests exist on your map. The roll inside is still a roll |
The honest summary: levels 1 through 3 are the opening moves, level 4 is the pivot, and level 6 is the whole back half of the game. A run that never passes level 4 never sees a clinic, a volcano interior, a rifle from chests, or a single Shark.
Why Six Levels, and Why One of Them Matters More Than the Others
The campfire is unusual among Roblox progression systems because it is a map key rather than a stat. Upgrading a weapon makes you stronger in the same places. Upgrading the fire makes new places appear, which is a different kind of progress: the thing you were grinding for may not exist on your map yet, no matter how good your gear is.
That produces the single most common failure mode in the game, which is not dying. It is reaching day 30 with a level 3 fire, holding eight Frog Keys, and wondering why the cave door will not open. The key is not the gate. The fire is the gate, and the key is a scheduling problem wearing a loot costume.
Level 4 is the pivot because it is the level where two separate things change at once. Play supplies open for free — the clinic, full stop, zero materials, roughly 300 health if every roll in it maxes out. And the fire stops being a wood-burning problem, because a log is worth under 1% of a burn and from here the fire has to run on coal, fuel canisters, oil barrels and biofuel. One number unlocks the best heal in the game and simultaneously breaks the fuel strategy that got you there.
Worth knowing before you spend a day here: the Gem of the Forest has to exist first, and no source agrees on the night fragments start dropping. The Gem of the Forest page walks that argument through.

Count the Level 2 and Level 6 rows against the Level 1 and Level 3 rows and the shape of the game falls out. The ladder is not evenly spaced. It is three cheap steps, one expensive pivot at 4, one step, and a wall at 6.
What Each Level Actually Buys You
Read this next to the upgrade ladder, which has the fuel numbers. This is the other half.
Level 1 to 2 is the cheapest jump in the game — six logs and one coal — and it buys more per fuel than any other step. The Frog Cave, both the Common and Good chest families, the jungle and volcanic edges, your first real water, and the first of the four kids. If there is one thing to do before the first night, it is this.
Level 2 to 3 adds roughly eleven logs and turns the map from a forest into a game with a Stronghold in it. The jungle sweep becomes worth taking, Iron Chests enter the pool, and the Taming Flute building enters the map. This is the level where Diamonds become a repeatable route rather than a lucky find.
Level 3 to 4 is where the cost curve breaks. Fifty logs and up, twenty-three coal, nine to twelve fuel canisters, and thirty biofuel — and from this point a log is a worse use of your time than a crafting material. What you get back: the clinic, the volcano interior, the rare chest band, Sharks, and the Kraken Kid. Plus the fuel types you are now forced onto: coal, canisters, oil barrels, biofuel.
Level 4 to 5 buys the anvil and bandages — the paid heal, one level behind the free one — plus Legendary Chests and the Squid Kid. It is also the level at which your safe zone starts working for you rather than against you, because a lit Level 5+ fire pushes Alpha Wolves out of the radius entirely.
Level 5 to 6 is the wall. Two hundred and seventy-five logs and up, a hundred and seventy coal, thirty-five canisters, eight oil barrels, eighty biofuel — roughly four times the previous step. What is on the other side of it is the entire back half of the game: the full map, the Bone Pond, the Trident, the Medkit, the last rescue, and the last step of every speedrun ladder ever written for this game.
The gate above is only half of it. The other half is the win condition itself — all four rescues completed before the run resolves. Both halves, with the campfire levels they depend on, are on how to win 99 Nights in the Forest.
The Four Levels That Decide a Run
Level 2 is the opening. Everything cheap and load-bearing is here. Treat it as a day-one target, not an upgrade to consider.
Level 4 is the pivot. It is the level most runs fail to reach and the level that changes the most about your day. Before it, healing is bandages and you are running on a fuel strategy that is about to stop working. After it, you have a free heal building on the map, the volcano, and the rare chest band — and there is a reason the standard advice at this point is to stop burning logs entirely.
Level 5 is the quiet one. Easy to skip, and skipping it costs you the anvil for the whole run. Bandages are the most-used item in the game and the one whose price climbs with every craft, and the anvil is where they come from.
Level 6 is the gate on the back half. Missing it does not make you weaker. It means the Trident does not exist for you this run, the Medkit does not exist, the Koala Kid is not a rescue but a rumour, and the last speedrun multiplier is unreachable. It is also the level the fuel guide is really about: getting there is a wood and coal problem long before it is anything else.
Where Sources Disagree
This is the section that matters most on a page like this, because a table of gates looks authoritative in a way that the individual pages it is drawn from are not. Read the next paragraph before you trust a number in the table above.
The site contradicts itself on where Legendary Chests sit. Our Chest Tiers page puts Iron at 3–4 and Legendary at 5. Our Ammo Guide, the Rifle page and the Revolver page all say "rare chests, campfire Level 4", and the Best Weapons page answers "what campfire level for Rare Chests?" with "Level 4". We are not going to pretend these agree. The most likely reading is that Level 4 is when the rare band opens at all, and Legendary is the top of that band rather than a separate tier — which makes 4 and 5 both correct about different things. Treat Level 4 as the gate and Level 5 as the ceiling.
The Cultist Stronghold appears at 3 and is sealed until 4. Cultist Stronghold says plainly that it shows up on your map at campfire level 3, in three separate places on that page. How to Get Diamonds Fast says that in some runs it stays sealed until your campfire reaches Level 4. One of those is the map reveal and the other is the door, or one of them is simply wrong. There is no source that states both.
The fishing building has at least three answers. Fandom says Fresh Ponds are fishable from Level 1. Pro Game Guides, GladiatorBoost, gggamer and dinokid all say the building appears once the campfire hits Level 2. rblxguide says it used to spawn around Level 2 and now appears at 3–4. Our own codes pages independently require Level 2 plus a rod for the yay fishing code, which is the one uncontested data point in the group — so Level 2 is the working assumption, and the Level 1 and 3–4 claims describe a different game version.
The Tool Workshop is 2 or 3. One structure database lists the prerequisite as campfire level 2 or higher. A second guide says 3. Our own Infernal Helmet page records 3 from a single source and flags it as single-source. Both numbers are live on this wiki.
The Jungle has three thresholds. The biome edge at 2+, a full sweep at 4+, and an unresolved 3 in the middle that our own page records as three different thresholds rather than three different answers.
The entity ladder is clean on exactly one page and muddled everywhere else. A single aggregator lays it out as rabbit 0, wolf 2, Alpha Wolf 4, bear 5, kiwi 6. Our own pages say wolves spawn in the Forest "around Level 2–4" and Alpha Wolves appear "Level 3–5" — a range that overlaps the other ladder without matching it. We have not settled this, and we are not going to average two sources into a number that neither of them published.
The fuel tables themselves disagree enough that the level costs below are ranges, not figures — and that argument belongs to the campfire page, which we have not tried to restate here.
FAQ
Which campfire level should I rush first? Level 2, on day one, before the first night. It costs six logs and one coal and it unlocks the Frog Cave, the first chest families, the jungle and volcanic edges and your first real water. Nothing else on this page is worth doing before it.
Do I need Level 6 to finish a run? To see everything, yes. The Trident, the Medkit, the Old Car Engine and the Koala Kid rescue are Level 6 exclusive, and the last speedrun multiplier sits there too. A run that reaches night 99 at Level 5 has a complete run and a much smaller game.
Does campfire level change what drops out of a chest, or only which chests exist? Only which chests exist. Level decides which rows are on your map; the roll inside a chest that is on the map is still a roll. The one exception is the Ruby Chest, which follows no distance gate at all — it is sparse, not far away.
Can I get a Rifle without Level 4? Its ammo is not gated — ponds spawn Rifle Ammo at every level from 1 to 6. The chest route is Level 4, and that is what makes the Rifle a mid-run weapon rather than an open one.
Is the anvil better than the clinic? No. The clinic opens a level earlier, costs nothing, and returns more health than five bandages. The anvil is the backup you use when you cannot reach one. The full comparison is on the Healing Guide.
Do higher campfire levels make the game harder? Not in the sense of adding threats. What they do is push the ones that already hunt you out of your radius — a Level 5+ lit fire repels Alpha Wolves outright — and pull you into biomes where the existing threats are simply stronger.
What is the fastest way to Level 6? It is wood before it is anything else, and the answer is on How to Get Wood Fast. Once you pass Level 4 the fire stops wanting logs at all, and the remaining two levels are a coal, canister and oil barrel problem.
Does the campfire reset between runs? Yes, including the level. Every campfire level gate on this page has to be re-earned from Level 1 in each new run.

Ammo in 99 Nights in the Forest: Every Type, Every Source, and the Cost per Round
There are three bullet types, three guns that fire them, and one building that sells them. Class Levels in 99 Nights in the Forest: Every Class's Level 2 and Level 3 Threshold, What the Grind Actually Costs, and Why Price Does Not Predict It
Every class in 99 Nights in the Forest has three levels, and every class page prints its own Level 2 and Level 3 requirement — but no page prints more than one class at a time. This page puts all of them on one table, divides Level 3 by Level 2, finds the only counter that does not double, fills in the Lumberjack's missing requirement, totals how much work each class really asks for, and prices the flat Robux skip ladder in Robux per unit of grunt work.
Healing in 99 Nights in the Forest: Every Source of Health, What Each One Costs, and Why the Clinic Beats the Anvil
Bandages, Medkits, the clinic, the campfire, the Chef's Jar o' Jelly and the Vampire's lifesteal are six separate heal economies, and every guide lists them as unrelated tips. What each one restores, what it costs in materials, why the bandage recipe gets more expensive every single time you craft one, and why the cheapest health in the game is a building most players walk past.
