How to Get the Poison Armour in 99 Nights in the Forest
The Poison Armour — the body piece that poisons anything that melee-attacks you. All four ways to get it (Poison Master class, Frog Chest, frog-pond fishing, and the Mother Temple Jungle Chest), what it actually does, and the one thing every guide disagrees about.
The Poison Armour is the counter-attack body piece: it poisons anything that hits you in melee, so a wolf or a cultist that keeps swinging at you slowly kills itself. It is the signature armour of the Poison Master class, and the defensive half of the game's poison build alongside the Poison Spear.

Quick Answer
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What it is | A wearable body armour — the game's "Body" slot |
| What it does | Inflicts a poison damage-over-time on anything that melee-attacks you (a Thorns-style effect, but with poison instead of reflected damage) |
| How to get it | Poison Master class (spawns with it), a Frog Chest, fishing the Frog Cave pond, or the Overlord Jungle Chest in the Mother Temple |
| Guaranteed route | Only the Poison Master class (200 Diamonds) — the chest and pond routes are low-chance rolls |
| Added in | The Frog Invasion update (22 August 2025); made far easier to get in the Jungle Biome update |
| Worth it? | Yes if you play the Poison Master build; otherwise it is an offensive side-grade, not a protection upgrade |
What It Actually Does — Read This Part
Its signature is offense disguised as defence. Anything that lands a melee hit on you takes poison damage over the next few seconds. It works exactly like the Thorn Body's damage reflection — same trigger, same "only melee" rule — except that instead of bouncing damage back instantly, it applies a poison damage-over-time that keeps ticking after the hit.
Two things follow from that:
- It is brutal against melee swarms. Wolves, cultists and boars that crowd you poison themselves to death while attacking. One write-up (Sportskeeda) puts it concretely: a wolf takes about 15 poison damage per strike on the armour and dies after roughly five hits.
- It does nothing against ranged attackers. An arrow or a crossbow bolt never touches you in melee, so it never triggers. Against a Crossbow Cultist this armour might as well be a T-shirt.
The poison stacks with other poison sources. The armour's poison ticks alongside the poison from a Blowpipe or Poison Spear, so a poison build layers several damage-over-times on the same target at once.
The one thing every guide disagrees about
Does the Poison Armour also reduce incoming damage? This is where the sources split, and it is worth being straight about it:
- Several say yes. 99-nights-in-the-forest.com rates its damage reduction "medium-high"; Pocket Tactics and 99nights-intheforest.net both list it as reducing incoming damage; Roonby calls it a piece that "provides defence along with poison resistance."
- Two say no, flatly. Sportskeeda states the armour does not reduce damage at all — you take the full hit and only the attacker gets poisoned — and Deltia's Gaming agrees, calling it "less defensive than the Iron Body or Alien Armour."
- The fandom wiki stays silent. Its Armour page records a protection figure for every other body (Leather "slightly protects," Iron "protects greatly," Thorn "greater than Iron and Alien," Obsidiron "greatly reduces") — but for the Poison Armour it lists only the poison effect, no protection claim at all.
The practical read: do not buy this armour for its damage reduction. The one thing all sources agree on is the poison, so treat the Poison Armour as an offensive piece whose defensive value is disputed and at best modest — not as the mid-game tank body that the Iron Body is.
Where the Poison Armour Sits
There are seven wearable armour variants in the game (plus the held Riot Shield). The Poison Armour is not a rung on the protection ladder — it is a specialist side-grade that sits off to one side of it:
| Tier | Armour | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Early | Leather Body | Starter set (Brawler spawns with it) |
| Mid | Iron Body | The standard mid-game target |
| Mid-high | Alien Armour | Above Iron; feeds Alien Tech Energy |
| High | Thorn Body | Above Iron and Alien; reflects melee damage |
| End | Obsidiron Body | The toughest; Meteor event only |
| Side-grade | Poison Armour | This page — poisons melee attackers instead of adding much protection |
The permanent-armour rule applies here too. The fandom wiki and rblxguide both state that armour cannot be unequipped once worn and can only be swapped for a strictly better piece. For the Poison Armour that cuts in your favour: the game itself ranks it below the Iron Body, so picking up an Iron Body (or an Alien Armour) later will replace it automatically — wearing it does not lock you out of a real defensive upgrade.
How to Get It — Four Routes
Route 1 — The Poison Master Class (guaranteed)
Buy the Poison Master for 200 Diamonds and it spawns with the Poison Armour equipped (and a Blowpipe in hand, according to Deltia's Gaming). This is the only deterministic source, and at 200 Diamonds it is one of the cheaper classes — which makes it the cheapest guaranteed armour in the game short of the free ones. For farming the diamonds, see How to Get Diamonds Fast, and for where the class sits against the others, see All Classes.
Route 2 — The Frog Chest (Frog King, ~1%)
The Frog Chest that the Frog King drops in the Frog Cave can contain the Poison Armour — but the drop rate is about 1%, making it one of the rarer items in his loot pool (the same chest gives the Poison Spear, Blowdart and Frog Boots, all at similarly low rates). The route: collect 8 Frog Keys (one per forest pond), jump the giant whirlpool into the cave, clear the enemies and the Frog King, then open the chest. The full step-by-step is on How to Get the Poison Spear.
Route 3 — Fishing the Frog Cave Pond (~1%)
The ponds inside the Frog Cave use the same loot pool as the boss chest. Sportskeeda and Deltia's Gaming both put the fishing chance at 1%, so if the chest roll did not give you the armour, you can fish for it while you are already down there. Bring an upgraded rod and food — it can take a long while.
Route 4 — The Overlord Jungle Chest (Mother Temple, "high" chance)
The Jungle Biome added a faster route. Clear the four Jungle Temples, collect the 4 Crystal Skull Keys from their altars, and place them on the Mother Temple to open its hidden treasure room. That room's chest — called the Overlord Jungle Chest (or simply the Jungle Chest) — is listed by the fandom wiki, 99-nights-in-the-forest.com and several Jungle guides as a high-chance source of the Poison Armour, alongside the Poison Claws and Blowpipe.
Two practical notes: the Jungle Biome needs your campfire at Level 3 before it appears, and the treasure-room chest opens once per player (the gems respawn, the chest does not). For the map side of this, see All Locations.
The honest read: the class is the only way to get it on demand. The Frog King, the frog pond and the Mother Temple are all dice rolls — but the Mother Temple roll is the friendliest of the three.
Is It Worth Getting?
Yes — if you are running the poison build. The Poison Master class hands you this armour for free, its poison stacks with the Blowpipe and the Poison Spear, and against melee-heavy nights it turns every attacker into a slow bleed. It is also the one body piece that keeps working while you do nothing.
No — if what you actually want is protection. This is the part most guides gloss over. Every source agrees it poisons attackers; they do not agree that it reduces damage, and two say it does not. If you want to take less damage, the Iron Body is the mid-game answer and the Thorn Body reflects melee and protects better. Take the Poison Armour for the poison, not for the armour.
FAQ
What does the Poison Armour actually do? It applies a poison damage-over-time to anything that hits you with a melee attack. Ranged attackers are unaffected.
Does it reduce incoming damage? Sources disagree — several say it does (one rates it "medium-high"), two say it does not at all, and the fandom entry lists no protection figure. Do not rely on it for defence; its real job is the poison.
Can I craft it? No. There is no recipe — it comes from the class, chests or fishing.
Which class starts with it? Only the Poison Master (200 Diamonds). No other class spawns wearing it.
Can I take it off later? Armour cannot be unequipped once worn; it can only be replaced by a better piece. Since the game ranks it below the Iron Body, picking up an Iron or Alien body replaces it automatically.
Does the poison stack with my Blowpipe? Yes — Sportskeeda confirms the armour's poison stacks with the Blowpipe's, so a poison build adds several damage-over-times to the same target.
Is it better than the Iron Body? For protection, no — two sources state it does not reduce damage and the game treats it as inferior to Iron. For a poison build it does a different job entirely.
Sources
Checked 2026-09-30. The signature effect — a poison damage-over-time applied to anything that melee-attacks the wearer — is stated by the fandom Armour page, 99-nights-in-the-forest.com, Sportskeeda, Deltia's Gaming, Escorenews and 99nights-intheforest.net; the melee-only rule follows the same trigger as the Thorn Body (fandom). The ~15 damage per strike / dies in about five hits example is Sportskeeda alone. The four acquisition routes are each multi-sourced: the Poison Master class (200 Diamonds) spawns with it is stated by the fandom Armour page, Sportskeeda, Deltia's Gaming, Pocket Tactics, Escorenews and 99nights-intheforest.net; the Frog Chest 1% drop is the fandom Armour page, Sportskeeda, Deltia's Gaming, Roonby and our own Poison Spear research; the frog-pond fishing 1% is Sportskeeda and Deltia's Gaming; and the Overlord Jungle Chest / Mother Temple route — with its "high" chance, its need for 4 Crystal Skull Keys, and the campfire-Level-3 Biome gate — comes from the fandom Armour page, 99-nights-in-the-forest.com's Jungle Temples page, Sportskeeda, Escorenews, Roblox Den and Vixhul. The update history — added in the Frog Invasion update (22 August 2025), made much more accessible by the Jungle Biome update — is Deltia's Gaming, Sportskeeda, Roonby and 99-nights-in-the-forest.com. The armour permanence rule is the fandom Armour page and rblxguide, and the "the game replaces it with Iron/Alien" detail is Sportskeeda. On the disputed damage reduction: we present both camps because the sources genuinely split — 99-nights-in-the-forest.com ("medium-high"), Pocket Tactics, 99nights-intheforest.net and Roonby on the "yes" side; Sportskeeda and Deltia's Gaming explicitly on the "no" side; and the fandom entry silent. We did not use 99nightsintheforest.wiki, which claims the Poison Armour is crafted "using Poison Materials at bench" — there is no such recipe in any other source.
