How to Get the Scythe in 99 Nights in the Forest
There are two scythes in 99 Nights in the Forest — the event Scythe and the class-locked Vampire Scythe — and only one of them is available right now. Both routes, both stat lines, and the lifesteal that makes them worth chasing.
There are two different weapons called "the Scythe" in 99 Nights in the Forest, and almost every guide blurs them together. That single confusion is why people who follow a tutorial to the letter still end up without the weapon they wanted.
This page separates them cleanly: the event Scythe (60 damage, from the Halloween Hedge Maze) and the Vampire Scythe (45 damage, locked to the Vampire class). Only one of the two is reliably available outside an event — and it is not the one most guides lead with.

Quick Answer
| Scythe (event) | Vampire Scythe (class) | |
|---|---|---|
| Damage | 60 base (78 Brawler) | 45 base (58.5 Brawler) |
| Swing rate | 0.7 seconds | 0.7 seconds |
| Effect | Lifesteal on hits | Blood bar — fills, then heals ~30% HP |
| Where | Hedge Maze chest (Halloween), Thanksgiving Table | Vampire class only |
| Available now? | Seasonal — event-gated | Yes — buy the class |
| Craftable? | No | No |
The one-line version: if you want a scythe today, buy the Vampire class (600 Diamonds) and you spawn with the Vampire Scythe. The 60-damage Scythe is a Halloween-event prize and is not something you can farm right now.
There Are Two Scythes — Here Is the Difference
Both are two-handed melee weapons with a long, curved blade and a 0.7-second swing. Past that they are different items with different owners:
- The Scythe is the event weapon. It was added with the Halloween Hedge Maze (the item's own date field reads 1 November 2025), it hits hardest of the two, and it drops from a chest you can only reach during that event.
- The Vampire Scythe is the class weapon. It is the starter tool of the Vampire class, which is permanent content — so this is the one most players can actually get.
Sources are not always careful about which one they mean, and one of them even attributes the Vampire Scythe to the Hedge Maze chest. We go through that disagreement below, because it changes where you should look.
The Scythe (60 Damage, Event)
The higher-damage of the two, and a genuine endgame melee weapon.
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Damage | 60 base; 78 with Brawler scaling |
| Swing rate | 0.7 seconds |
| Effect | Lifesteal — it heals you as you land hits |
| Kill power | Drops a rabbit in one hit |
Two sources describe the lifesteal slightly differently — one says it heals you on every successful strike, another says the heal comes after enough hits accumulate. Either way the effect is real and it is the reason the weapon is rated so highly: on a long run against waves of enemies, healing as you fight is worth more than a small damage edge.
How to get it:
- The Hedge Maze (Halloween event). Play the Carnival mini-games — basketball, ring toss and the shooting game — and earn one Ticket from each of the three, for three in total.
- Spend the three Tickets to enter the Haunted / Hedge Maze.
- Follow the red arrows to the centre. Watch out: the Deer can spawn inside the maze, so carry a Flashlight to scare it off.
- Open the big centre chest ("Vampire Chest") for Candy, Coins and the event Scythe.
One practical warning that belongs here: the maze is Halloween content. If the event is not running, the maze — and therefore this route — is not there. Do not start a run planning around it.
Seasonal alternatives. The same Scythe is reported at the Thanksgiving Table (November), and one source adds a Valentine's event route. All three are event windows, not standing content.
The Vampire Scythe (45 Damage, Class)
The permanent one — and the one you can actually go get.
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Damage | 45 base; 58.5 with Brawler scaling |
| Swing rate | 0.7 seconds |
| Reach | Long — spear-class |
| Effect | A blood bar that fills as you fight; when it tops out, it is consumed and heals roughly 30% of your health (50% once the Vampire class hits Level 3) |
The blood bar is the whole point. Unlike the event Scythe, which heals a little on every hit, the Vampire Scythe banks its healing: you keep landing hits, the meter fills, and then it pays out in one big heal. That makes it a burst-survival tool rather than a steady trickle — better for getting out of a bad fight in one piece, worse for topping yourself up continuously.
Sources describe it as the more accessible, slightly weaker cousin of the event Scythe, sharing the Vampire Cloak's blood meter. It also has a famously blunt in-game description: "just a bouncing blade on a stick".
How to get it — one route: buy the Vampire class (600 Diamonds) and you spawn with a Vampire Scythe and a Vampire Cloak. The weapon cannot be dropped or traded, so the class is genuinely the only door. See All Classes for the full cost table.
The Disagreement: What Does the Maze Chest Actually Drop?
This is worth spelling out, because it is the trap in most scythe guides.
Most sources say the Hedge Maze's centre chest gives the event Scythe (60 damage):
- 99-nights-in-the-forest.com lists the Scythe's only source as the Hedge Maze Chest, "awarded after successfully completing the Hedge Maze during the Halloween event".
- Deltia's Gaming's update breakdown says the centre chest holds "event-exclusive items like the Scythe".
- rblxguide routes the Scythe through the Vampire Chest for completing the Hedge Maze.
- BloxSwaps lists the Scythe from the Hedge Maze chest and the Thanksgiving Table, and — importantly — lists the Vampire Scythe as "Vampire class only, cannot be dropped".
One source disagrees: Sportskeeda's guide says the chest at the maze's centre gives the Vampire Scythe. That is the odd one out — every other source ties the Vampire Scythe to the class and the maze chest to the event Scythe.
What to do with that: if you are chasing the Vampire Scythe, do not rely on the maze — buy the class, which is the route the sources agree on. If a future Halloween event returns, open the maze chest for the event Scythe.
The Vampire Class, In Full
Since the class is the only route to the Vampire Scythe, here is what 600 Diamonds actually buys:
- Starter tools: Vampire Scythe + Vampire Cloak.
- Level 1: lifesteal on any melee weapon, and you run faster at night.
- Level 2: improved night vision (requires healing 450 HP via lifesteal and dealing 5,000 damage).
- Level 3: increased lifesteal healing (requires healing 1,000 HP and dealing 15,000 damage).
Note what Level 1 really gives you: the lifesteal applies to any melee weapon, not just the scythe. So the class is not "the scythe class" so much as "the sustain class" — the scythe is the weapon it hands you to start, and its night-time bonuses make it a very different pick from the Katana's pure mobility. Our Best Class page covers where Vampire sits against the rest.
Is the Scythe Better Than the Morningstar or Infernal Sword?
Two comparisons that come up constantly:
- vs the Morningstar: one source puts the event Scythe's damage "similar to the Morningstar", and the published figures support it — 60 vs 70 is close, the swings are 0.7s vs 1.0s, and both have a combat gimmick (lifesteal versus the explosion bar). The Morningstar hits harder per swing; the Scythe swings faster and heals.
- vs the Infernal Sword: a guide calls the Vampire Scythe "slightly stronger than the Infernal Sword", which lines up with 45 damage against the sword's ~40–50 range — but the sword's edge is burning, not healing. Pick by whether you want damage over time or survivability.
A Note on the Numbers
One aggregator lists the Scythe at "6,078" damage. That is not a real figure — it is the same formatting bug we have flagged before, where the base and Brawler values get run together: 60 and 78. It shows up identically on the Ice Sword ("3,545" = 35 / 45.5) and the Katana ("2,532" = 25 / 32.5). Ignore the concatenated number; the real value is 60 (78 Brawler).
FAQ
Is there more than one scythe? Yes — the event Scythe (60 damage) and the Vampire Scythe (45 damage). They are different weapons.
Which one can I get right now? The Vampire Scythe, via the Vampire class. The event Scythe needs a Halloween (or Thanksgiving) event to be running.
How do I get the event Scythe? Clear the Hedge Maze during the event and open the centre chest. You need three Tickets from the three Carnival mini-games to get in.
How do I get the Vampire Scythe? Buy the Vampire class — 600 Diamonds — and you spawn with it. It cannot be dropped or traded.
Can I craft either one? No. Neither has a recipe.
Does the scythe heal me? Yes, both do — but differently. The event Scythe heals as you land hits; the Vampire Scythe fills a blood bar and then heals ~30% of your health in one go (50% at Vampire Level 3).
Is the Scythe stronger than the Morningstar? Close. The Morningstar does 70 per swing; the Scythe does 60 but swings faster (0.7s vs 1.0s) and heals.
What does the Vampire class give me besides the scythe? A Vampire Cloak, lifesteal on any melee weapon, faster running at night, and improved night vision at higher levels.

Checked 2026-09-30. The two-scythe split is taken from 99-nights-in-the-forest.com, which has a separate item page for each — the Scythe ("high damage, similar to the Morningstar", life-stealing, Hedge Maze Chest only, added 1 November 2025) and the Vampire Scythe (45 base / 58.5 Brawler, 0.7s swing, blood bar healing ~30%, or 50% at Vampire Level 3, class-only). The 60 / 78 damage and 0.7s swing for the event Scythe are from Bloxodes' weapon table, and the Hedge Maze route (three Carnival Tickets → the maze → the centre chest) is from Deltia's Gaming's Hedge Maze update guide and Sportskeeda's walkthrough. The Vampire class kit and perks (Vampire Scythe + Vampire Cloak, lifesteal on any melee, night speed, night vision, L3 healing) are from Deltia's Gaming, corroborated by rblxguide and BloxSwaps. The bare chest contents (Candy, Coins, the Scythe) are from Deltia's Gaming. The "slightly stronger than the Infernal Sword" line on the Vampire Scythe is Sportskeeda's. The "Vampire-Scythe-from-the-maze-chest" claim is Sportskeeda's and is the outlier — every other source ties the Vampire Scythe to the class, and we say so rather than blending the two. The Thanksgiving Table source is rblxguide's and the Valentine's route is BloxSwaps'; both are flagged as seasonal. The lifesteal wording differs between 99-nights-in-the-forest.com ("each successful strike") and Bloxodes ("after enough hits"), and we present both. The "6,078" figure from rblxguide is the known base-plus-Brawler concatenation bug (60 / 78).
