Snow Biome in 99 Nights in the Forest

The cold outer biome: the freeze mechanic, what spawns there (Polar Bear, Arctic Fox, Mammoth, The Owl), the Ice Temple Cultist Gem route, and why you brave the cold.

The Snow Biome is the cold outer sector of the map in 99 Nights in the Forest. It is where the game's best Cultist Gem route lives, and the only place the Mammoth spawns. This page covers the cold mechanic, what you meet there, and why it is worth the trip. The map model it sits inside is on All Locations.

Where It Sits

The map generates as concentric rings around your campfire. The inner ring (roughly 0–500m) is safe forest; beyond it the map splits into outer sectors — Snow, Volcanic and Jungle — each with its own enemy set and loot pool. The Snow Biome is the cold one. The radial model and the other rings are detailed on All Locations.

The Cold Mechanic

Entering the Snow Biome brings up a freeze (or temperature) meter that drains over time. If it empties, you cannot run — dangerous if a Polar Bear is on you. Ringing the Bell Tower bell slows the drain for that run.

Bring warm gear, or keep a campfire fueled: How to Get Biofuel explains the rain-proof fuel that holds a fire at max intensity, which is the easy way to stay warm deep in the snow.

Structures and Loot

  • Ice Temple — one of the more reliable Cultist Gem sources in the game (corroborated by the community biome map). Cultist Gems gate Crafting Bench 4 and deeper progression.
  • Owl's Nest — takes feathers in batches and awards Snow Biome loot, including the Ice Bow at higher tiers.
  • Bell Tower — ring it to slow the freeze meter.
  • Chests: Ice Chest and Cold Chest (not guaranteed). Items reported across the wikis: Ice Sword, Frozen Shuriken, Snowball, Ice Bow, and the Boost Pad Recipe Tablet (from the Ice Temple).

Why You Go

Two reasons dominate:

  1. Cultist Gems. The Ice Temple is a steadier gem route than fighting the Cultist Stronghold, and gems are what unlock the later missing-kids caves (see Missing Kids Locations).
  2. Pelts. The snow pelts — Polar Bear Pelt and Arctic Fox Pelt — are for warm clothing (the Polar Bear Hat and Arctic Fox Hat), not the Pelt Trader. The pelts that trade there are Wolf, Alpha Wolf and Bear pelts. See Pet Food for the full list.

If you are hunting the Mammoth tame, this is the only biome it appears in.

A Note on Conflicting Guides

One guide (gamermovil) describes a more elaborate "winter expansion" — Yetis, a Temperature System with hypothermia stages, Warm Hats, and a North Wind Cave entrance after night 30. The other community wikis do not describe those specifics, so treat the Yeti / Warm-Hat details as reported by a single source and verify them in your own run. The core facts above — cold outer ring, freeze meter, Polar Bear / Arctic Fox / Mammoth, Ice Temple gems, Bell Tower — are agreed across multiple wikis.
