How to Get the Infernal Sword in 99 Nights in the Forest

Every route to the Infernal Sword: Infernal Chests in the Volcanic Biome, the eight-sacrifice volcano ritual, and the Cultist King drop — plus why it also keeps you fed.

Updated 2026-09-30

The Infernal Sword is the strongest fire melee weapon in 99 Nights in the Forest and it only exists inside the Volcanic Biome. It is also genuinely hard to get — this page covers all three ways in, and which one is actually worth your time.

What It Does

  • Burning on every hit. Enemies keep taking damage after you stop swinging, which is what separates it from every other melee weapon.
  • Roughly 40–50+ damage per hit. Sources do not agree exactly: one puts it at 40 plus Burning, two describe it as over 50 per hit — enough to drop a cultist in two or three swings. Treat "around 40–50 plus burn" as the working number.
  • It cooks your food for you. Land the killing blow on an animal and the meat drops already cooked. Over a long run that is a real hunger-bar advantage, not a flavour detail. One source also notes the same effect applies to the broader Infernal set.

One caveat worth knowing before you commit a loadout: per a single guide, the Deer and the Owl are immune to it. That claim is not corroborated elsewhere, so verify it yourself rather than relying on it mid-fight.

Route 1 — Volcano Sacrifice (Most Reliable)

This is the route most guides call the better odds, because unlike chests it always produces a roll.

  1. Get into the Volcanic Biome. One guide suggests campfire level 2–3 before going in; the biome was added as part of the Volcanic Biome update — see Update Log & Patch Notes.
  2. Go inside the volcano itself and find the bridge marked with a star symbol over the magma pool. The sacrifice pit sits underneath it.
  3. Drop offerings into the magma until every point of the star symbol lights up. Valid offerings include loot, cultist corpses, and players who did not make it.
  4. Once the symbol glows all the way around, a reward chest appears — and the Infernal Sword is in its loot table.

How many sacrifices? Two independent sources both say eight — one describes it as eight offerings to light the symbol, another as "feed the volcano eight corpses" for a reward. Cultists are the practical source: they spawn around the volcano itself.

Two more details: poisoning scorpions are everywhere inside, so bring healing. And there is reportedly a "Volcanology" badge at 150 sacrifices that improves reward tiers — that comes from a single source, so treat it as unconfirmed.

Route 2 — Infernal Chests

The Volcanic Biome's top-tier chests. Depending on the guide you read they are called Infernal Chests, Inferno Chests or "red spiked chests" — same thing, and visually they are the redder, spikier version of the Hot Chests found around the same biome.

Reported spawn points differ a little between guides, so check all of these:

LocationNotes
Volcanic ChurchThe chest spawns on the roof — parkour required. Open it fast: rewards can roll off into the lava
The FurnaceThe factory-like structure in the biome
Ammo FurnaceReported to hold a Legendary Infernal Chest
Cultist Tower / Lavaduct / ChurchEach guarded by cultists; the last one drops a Cultist Gem
The PitGuarded by scorpions

The practical distinction that matters is this: at least one source lists the Legendary Infernal Chest as carrying the sword-specific loot table (Infernal Sack, Infernal Crossbow, Infernal Sword), which makes the Ammo Furnace worth prioritising over the ordinary spawns.

Be aware the ordinary versions carry other things too — one guide lists gasoline in the regular Infernal Chest table. You will open several before one gives you what you came for; the drop is described as extremely rare, with one source comparing its rarity to pulling the Morningstar out of a Gold Chest.

Route 3 — The Cultist King

The boss drops it — but he drops either the Infernal Sword or the Infernal Crossbow per kill, never both, so it is a coin flip and he costs four Cultist Gems to summon. Full summoning walkthrough, tactics and the complete drop table on The Cultist King.

Which Route Should You Use?

Do the volcano ritual, using cultists you were killing anyway. It converts enemies you must fight into guaranteed rolls, whereas chest routes depend on both finding the chest and winning a very low roll.

The Cultist King route is worth it if you also want the Infernal Helmet, because you need his Antler for that regardless — then the sword is a bonus rather than the objective. Going to him purely for the sword is poor value: four gems, a hard boss fight, and a 50/50 against the crossbow.

And if you happen to unlock the Fire Bandit class, note that one source reports it grants the Infernal Crossbow outright — which sidesteps this entire grind for the ranged version.

FAQ

Can I craft the Infernal Sword? No. Every source is agreed on this. It cannot be crafted at any bench.

Is it only in the Volcanic Biome? Yes, for all three routes.

Can I get it outside the volcano? Yes — via Infernal Chests elsewhere in the biome, or from the Cultist King. The volcano ritual is just the most consistent of the three.

What is it worth trading for? Nothing in this game has an official trade value; treat the Infernal set as end-of-tree gear you use, not sell. See Best Weapons for how it ranks against the rest.

Do I need a high campfire level? One guide recommends campfire level 2–3 for the Volcanic Biome; if wood is your bottleneck, start with How to Get Wood Fast.

Checked 2026-09-30. Dedicated guides exist at Deltia's Gaming and Sports Rant, joined by Roblox Den's chest-location breakdown, BloxSwaps' weapon table and the fandom wiki's Volcanic Biome guide. The volcano ritual (star-symbol bridge, sacrifice pit, reward chest) is described consistently by Sports Rant and the fandom guide, and eight offerings is corroborated by both independently. Damage is where sources split (40 vs 50-plus) and is presented as a range rather than a figure. Infernal Chest naming varies between sources and is noted as such; the immunity claim and the Volcanology badge are flagged single-source.

Separately, this page's existence makes it worth restating: the Cultist King's own Mace is not obtainable, whatever old rumours say — BloxSwaps says so in as many words, matching the conclusion on our Cultist King page.
