The Ram in 99 Nights in the Forest: An Unkillable Volcanic Monster You Cannot Outrun, Only Sidestep — and the One Claim Nobody Has Corroborated
Where The Ram spawns, why it replaces The Deer on Volcanic nights, the charge loop second by second, why the way it faces you is not the way it runs, what a flashlight can and cannot interrupt, the 30 versus 45 walk-speed dispute, the lava-pool trick that exactly one source claims, and what it never drops.
Most nights you deal with The Deer by reaching your fire, and you deal with The Owl by stopping dead. The Ram is the Volcanic equivalent, and it is the one of the three that cannot be answered by standing still or by running in a straight line — because The Ram has a charge, and charging enemies do not turn.
This page is about The Ram as an entity: how it behaves second by second, which inputs actually interrupt it, why its facing direction is a trap to read, and where the published numbers contradict each other. The biome's lava rules, the volcano altar loop and the chest tables are on Volcanic Biome and are not repeated here. The statue that carries its name in the Caverns is also not this — see that page for the blessing table.
Quick Answer
| What it is | An unkillable monster that replaces The Deer on Volcanic nights |
| Where | The Volcanic Biome and the deep Forest; night only |
| Health | N/A — no weapon does anything to it, including while it charges |
| Damage | 25 per hit, reported (one source says it climbs with the day count) |
| Walk speed | 30 per one source, 45 per another — see the dispute below |
| Attacks | A chase at walking pace, then a telegraphed charge that knocks trees flat |
| Interrupted by | A flashlight while it is walking; the campfire safe zone |
| Immune to | Everything else — no stun during the wind-up or the charge itself |
| Drops | Nothing. No pelts, no gems, no chest |
| Can you "remove" it? | One source claims a lava pool does — uncorroborated |
| Added | 20 September 2025, in the second half of the Volcanic Biome update |
Which Biome Night You Are In
The three outer biomes each carry one secondary monster that stands in for The Deer, and which one you get is decided before the sun goes down.
| Biome active | The Deer's replacement | How you answer it |
|---|---|---|
| Snow | The Owl | Stand still and let the freeze meter drop |
| Volcanic | The Ram | Read the wind-up and sidestep |
| Jungle | The Cat | Watch the ground, leave the circle early — and its counter is "never stop moving" |
Every one of these is unkillable, and none of them drops loot. What differs is the counter, and the Ram's counter is the only one that is a movement problem rather than a stillness problem — which is why players who are calm around the Owl still lose a running to it.
Do not read that row as "the Volcanic Biome has no killable animal". The Hellephant is its apex animal, is a completely separate creature, and is worth killing — it drops 8–9 Cooked Steak and can be tamed. Only the Ram in this table is the one you walk away from.
One consequence worth naming: if The Ram appears, The Deer does not spawn that night (unless a cultist attack is running on the same night). That detail comes from a single source and nobody else states it — see the sources section for how we treat it. The practical upshot either way is the same: an announced Volcanic night already has its own threat, so you are not getting a Deer and a Ram.
What It Does, Second by Second
The loop has three distinct phases and you can see most of them coming.
1. Walk and chase. Out of the charge, The Ram moves slower than a sprinting player, so a straight run buys you real distance. This is the phase where your flashlight matters, and it is the only phase where it does anything.
2. Stop and telegraph. Mid-chase it stops moving and starts winding up. The wind-up is shown on-screen — Sportskeeda describes it as an eye with a rising red meter, and the meter filling is the point at which the charge is already committed. The Ram is immune to stun while it is preparing this, so shining a light during the wind-up does nothing.
3. Charge. It rushes forward on a straight line and flattens trees in its path. It cannot be outrun during the charge — it is faster than a sprint at this point — and it cannot be killed, not even mid-charge.
The single most useful thing about phase 3 is that the direction it faces is not the direction it runs. Both Sportskeeda and the wiki state this independently: it can appear to be looking one way and charge at someone standing on the opposite side. So do not dodge away from where it is looking — dodge perpendicular to the line it is committed to, which in practice means stepping left or right the moment the meter starts to fill.
The Turn Problem: Why Sidestepping Actually Works
The Ram's charge is a straight line with a poor turning radius. That is the whole counter, and it is why the advices that sound interchangeable are not:
- Running straight away does nothing. Once the charge starts it outpaces you, and it also has a longer reach than you expect. Straight-line running is the version that gets you clipped.
- Stepping left or right does. It overshoots, and the overshoot is the gap you use to get back toward your camp.
- The turn happens early or not at all. Because the turn radius is bad, the useful window is the moment the meter fills — not the moment it is about to fill.
Two secondary effects of the charge are worth planning around. First, it destroys trees, so a charge through your escape route can remove the cover or the path you were counting on. Second, the charge is what does the damage: the walking bite is reported at 25, and the charge is the part that "eradicates" you per one source. Do not read the wind-up as a warning to run — read it as a warning to pick a side now.
What Stops It
| Input | Works? | Where the claim comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Any weapon | No. No health bar exists | Consistent across rblxguide, Sportskeeda and the wiki |
| Flashlight, while walking/chasing | Yes — it winces or stalls | Sportskeeda, BloxSwaps and the wiki agree |
| Flashlight, during wind-up or charge | No — fully immune | Sportskeeda and the wiki agree |
| Campfire safe zone | Yes, same as Deer and Owl | BloxSwaps states this explicitly |
| Lava pool | Reported — one source only | See the next section |
The flashlight rule is the one that catches people: game guides list "flashlight stun" as a general weakness of the unkillable monsters, and that is only true outside the charge. Sportskeeda's phrasing is the precise one — use the light while it is chasing you, not while it is winding up.
The One Claim Nobody Has Corroborated
Exactly one source we found — a thin aggregator guide — claims you can lure The Ram into a lava pool to temporarily remove it from the session, and that this is the only way short of surviving to dawn to get rid of it.
We are publishing it as a single source and nothing more. Here is what we can and cannot say about it:
- What the source says: it lists the lava-pool lure as a survival tip and answers "can you kill it permanently?" with "no, except by temporarily removing it via lava traps."
- What no other source says anything about: not one of the four other guides we checked mentions lava removing a monster. The same four all describe lava only as a hazard to players and a shredder for dropped items.
- What our own Volcanic Biome page documents: lava damages and ignites you, and permanently destroys items you drop into it. Nothing we found states that lava removes monsters of any kind.
- Why it is plausible but unproven: lava does affect entities in this game, and the Ram is Volcanic-flavoured, so it is not an absurd claim. But plausibility is not a source.
If you test it, treat the outcome as unsourced either way. Do not plan a route around it.
The Numbers Dispute
The Ram's stat line is not settled, and the disagreement is narrow and easy to read.
| Stat | Figure | Source count |
|---|---|---|
| Walk speed | 30 | rblxguide — one source |
| Walk speed | 45 | exclusively from 99nightsintheforest.wiki, the mirror site we otherwise reject wholesale |
| Damage | 25 | rblxguide and Sportskeeda — two sources, agreeing |
| Damage | 25+ "varies depending on day count" | the same rejected mirror, alone |
| Health | N/A, unkillable | three sources agree |
| Drops | Nothing | two sources agree |
| Added | 20 September 2025, second half of the Volcanic Biome update | BloxSwaps gives the date; Sportskeeda agrees on the "second part" framing |
Where we land: take 25 damage and treat walk speed as the open question. We list 30 because it is the figure from a source we otherwise trust, and we flag 45 rather than silently dropping it, because a 50% speed difference is large enough to change whether a straight sprint works — and the slower number is the one that makes the escape sound. The mirror site is the only source with the day-scaling damage line, and since we have rejected that site's other claims on this entity (it is the same source that supplies the "The Ram has woken up" cutscene below), we do not carry its numbers as fact.
One internal check that does hold up: our Volcanic Biome page dates the biome itself to 13 September 2025. A monster arriving a week later, described by two sources as arriving in the second half of the Volcanic Biome update, is consistent with that — the Ram is Part 2 of a September biome, not a separate event.
Does It Replace The Deer, and What Does That Cost You?
Yes, on Volcanic nights The Ram stands in for The Deer. Our The Deer page and our The Owl page both already record that swap, so we are not re-litigating it here.
The part that is genuinely new to most players is the one-source claim that when The Ram is out, The Deer is not — with the stated exception of nights that also run a cultist attack. That would make a Volcanic night a different night, not a harder one: the most rigid, best-understood threat in the game is simply absent, replaced by something with a narrower but more violent counter.
Treat that as unconfirmed until someone else publishes it. The safe planning assumption is the boring one: a Volcanic night has a Ram, and the Ram cannot be fought.
What It Never Drops
Nothing. No pelts, no gems, no chest, no pelt-trader currency. Two independent sources agree that there is no reward for engaging with it, which is why the correct mental model is not "boss" but weather. You do not farm weather.
That is worth stating plainly because a lot of entity guides are built around drops, and players arrive expecting The Ram to be worth something. It is worth exactly one thing: knowing how to leave.
Does It Come Inside?
The Ram is a night creature like the Deer and Owl, and the campfire is a safe zone against it, in the same way it is against the other two. Nobody we found states flatly whether it can path all the way to your fire and stand there — every source we have describes the fire as a boundary it respects rather than a place it reaches.
Practically: run toward the fire the moment you see the eye icon, because arriving there early is the difference between a wild night and a short one.
FAQ
Can you kill The Ram? No. It has no health bar, and it stays unkillable even mid-charge. Three sources agree.
Is it faster than you? Walking, no — you outrun it. Charging, yes — and that is the phase that matters.
Why can't I just stun it with my flashlight? You can, but only while it is walking and chasing. During the wind-up and during the charge it is immune.
The way it's facing isn't where it's going — is that a bug? Reported by two sources as normal behaviour. Use it: the Ram commits to a line and turns badly, so the counter is always a sideways step, never a straight run.
Does it drop anything? Nothing at all. There is no reason to engage with it beyond survival.
Can I dodge by running around a tree? No — the charge destroys trees in its path, so cover does not reliably survive contact.
Is the lava-pool trick real? One source claims it; four others say nothing about it and describe lava purely as a player hazard and loot shredder. Untested as far as we can tell.
Why is there a Ram statue in the Caverns? Different thing. The Caverns' green gem offers four statues — Deer, Owl, Ram and Bat — and picking the Ram one grants a reduced chance of lightning blessing. That is on The Caverns and has nothing to do with the monster itself.

Corroborated by three or more: the Ram being unkillable, including mid-charge, and being a night-only secondary monster — rblxguide, Sportskeeda and the mirror wiki. No drops — rblxguide and the mirror wiki. The charge knocks trees down — the mirror wiki, BloxSwaps and Sportskeeda. A poor turning radius that makes sideways dodging work — the mirror wiki and Sportskeeda. The flashlight works while walking but not during the wind-up or the charge — Sportskeeda and the mirror wiki; BloxSwaps separately confirms the flashlight and campfire safe zone behave here exactly as they do against the Deer and Owl.
Single source, stated as such: the 30 walk speed is rblxguide alone. The 45 walk speed, the day-scaling 25+ damage, the "The Ram has woken up" cutscene and the night-opening message, and the claim that The Deer does not spawn on a Ram night unless a cultist attack runs — all four come from 99nightsintheforest.wiki alone, a site we reject wholesale for other reasons, and all four should be treated as uncorroborated until someone else publishes them. The lava-pool removal is a single thin aggregator, contradicted by nothing and supported by nothing. The 20 September 2025 date and the "second half of the Volcanic Biome update" framing come from BloxSwaps and Sportskeeda respectively.
What nobody publishes: whether the Ram can path into and through your camp like a Deer; the exact wind-up duration; what the charge damage is, separately from the reported 25 on hit; and whether the lava-pool claim has ever been tested by anyone who wrote it down twice.
